Mailbox, a popular mobile email app, is going to be shut down by Dropbox. The service will no longer be available come February 26 and Dropbox is also getting rid of Carousel, a photo service, on March 31. Based on its statement about the app shutdowns, it sounds like Dropbox wants to integrate mail and photo features into the main cloud storage service.
"Key features" from Carousel will be added to Dropbox and "new ways to communicate and collaborate" will also become a part of Dropbox.
In writing about the shutdown of Mailbox, the Mailbox team said, "as we deepened our focus on collaboration, we realized there's only so much an email app can do to fundamentally fix email."
